Anthropocene
Parametric Typeface Driven by Air Quality
JavaScriptHTMLCSS

Overview
Anthropocene.otf is a free parametric typeface linked to an air quality index: its design dynamically and constantly changes, following your local current air status trends.
The typeface's weight and shape are driven by live AQI readings, pollutant levels like NO₂, PM10, and PM2.5 are fetched for the visitor's location and mapped to font parameters, so the letterforms literally thin out as the air gets worse. The project site includes an interactive type tester and a downloadable .otf.
Built as a New Media project at the Academy of Fine Arts, it explores how data about the climate crisis can be embedded into the everyday tools we use to communicate.
